Cold Hands

My hands are freezing cold,

And you never believed me,

Until you held them suddenly,

On a September evening,

After a crazy thunderstorm back home,

And the shock in your eyes,

As your hand shivered with my cold hands,

Was stupefying for you,

But all so normal for me.

"Why didn't you tell me how cold you were feeling?"

Because I was always this cold,

Because it is okay now,

Because I didn't want you to feel cold.

So, when I try to pull them away from your grip,

You tighten it,

Not letting it go,

Until we're home.

I've not felt warm and cold at the same time,

And I know this isn't the last time this is happening.
