Days Like Today

On days like today,

When I spend the entire afternoon reading a book and guessing it’s plot right,

I feel like searching your name in my contact list,

Dialing it up to tell you everything about it.

On days like today,

When the character in the book says something you would say in real life,

I feel like ignoring the number of times I’ve texted you,

And instead call you and read out the entire page while you laugh at my silliness.

On days like today,

When everything feels heavier than the weight of my book,

I feel like tapping your name on my favourites,

To just listen to your voice making everything seem lighter.

On days like today,

I wish you were closer, warmer, lovelier,

Than you already are.
