Understanding You
It took me 3 seasons to understand you.
9 different types of weather to know which one is your favourite –
Yet, a new kind of weather excites you like a child every time.
It took me 3 dates to understand,
That you have to have an ice cream for a good date to end.
This also meant, our first 3 dates were perfect.
It took me an hour long phone call to understand,
You called and cribbed because your team lost,
Not because you wanted to hear my voice.
The next time your team was about to lose,
I came over with a box of tissues and a tub of ice-cream.
It took me a single text message to understand,
How unwell you are,
And how the medicines are not going to make you feel any better.
It took me 6 poems to understand,
How you’ve become more than a muse,
And how the rhymes come back to you.
It takes me 427 words to tell you how I feel.
And all the above things to not tell you about it.
