When Words Aren’t Enough

He asks me, “What happens when words aren’t enough?”

I laugh and tell him something he might already know,

“There’re no conversations, and only distances.”

Then?

Then we keep searching for the right words,

To feel,

To heal,

To console,

To hold,

To keep,

To stop,

To stay,

To believe,

To talk,

To lessen,

The distances,

That we keep building,

When we think words aren’t enough.

Even if they aren’t,

I hope we are,

For one another,

With or without words.
