The Phone Call

He calls me for the first time,

Hesitant, confident,

All in the same line.

And me being me,

Teases him the first chance I get,

Hearing his laughter,

Like he too didn't expect,

This call to go,

So smooth, so fun,

Teasing me back,

With the confidence he has earned.

But then,

The call drops,

And when I call him back,

The person on the other side,

Is different than the one who laughed with me minutes back.

Who was he,

Where did he go,

Now, he was simply arrogant,

As he can show,

From his voice and his words,

Through the phone.

Though we end the call,

On some terms,

Wondering if we could ever know,

Each other outside this phone.
